The Brevard Fire Department announced on May 19 that it will conduct a live burn training exercise at 401 Rosman Highway on Thursday, May 21, between 5:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. During the exercise, one lane of Rosman Highway in front of the site will be closed to traffic.
The department said this training is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure firefighter readiness and safety during real emergencies. The event is expected to generate visible smoke in the area as part of the controlled fire evolutions used for training purposes.
According to the Brevard Fire Department, “The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has issued a permit to BFD to demolish the structure using controlled fire evolutions, and there is no need to report smoke from the structure fire during that time.”
Residents are advised not to report smoke or flames seen at this location during these hours, as emergency personnel will be present and monitoring all activities closely.
This scheduled exercise allows firefighters practical experience with live fire scenarios while ensuring public safety through proper permits and road management.
