U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards has voiced his support for the Senate-amended reconciliation bill, highlighting its potential benefits for Western North Carolinians and Americans nationwide. In a statement, Edwards emphasized that the bill addresses several key issues such as tax relief, energy independence, national security, and border protection.
Edwards stated, “The reconciliation bill delivers on many priorities that Western North Carolinians have demanded: tax relief and higher take-home pay for families, unleashing American energy, strengthening our national security, and securing our borders.” He further explained that his support is driven by constituent advocacy and a commitment to improving life for all Americans through significant tax cuts for middle- and working-class individuals.
According to Edwards, rejecting the bill would result in a 24 percent tax increase for constituents in NC-11. It would also maintain taxes on tips, overtime, and American-made cars while preserving the death tax affecting local farmers.
The bill aims to reduce federal spending by approximately $1.2 trillion over the next decade while safeguarding programs like Medicare and Medicaid. It includes pro-growth policies designed to stimulate investment and economic growth.
Addressing Medicaid reforms within the bill, Edwards noted its intent to focus resources on vulnerable populations by establishing work requirements for non-pregnant adults without dependents. The legislation also proposes a $50 billion fund specifically targeted at supporting rural hospitals in Western North Carolina.
Edwards concluded by reiterating the clear message from his constituents: “Western North Carolina can’t succeed if we aren’t succeeding as a country, and this bill will put our nation back on a path of strength and prosperity.”
Background information provided indicates potential impacts if certain 2017 tax cuts expire. The reconciliation bill aims to prevent increased taxes in North Carolina’s 11th District while promoting economic growth through various incentives.
Additionally, the legislation seeks to bolster support for families and seniors with increased deductions and credits. Border security measures outlined include investments in technology, personnel hiring across various agencies, completion of physical barriers, and expedited deportations of violent offenders.
