U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards has urged the White House to expedite the provision of temporary housing in Western North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. His call comes after reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) took five months to provide temporary housing in Louisiana and a year in Maui, Hawaii.

Currently, 2,581 families are displaced due to the hurricane, with counties in Western North Carolina requesting 1,180 FEMA trailers.

Edwards emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, “With winter approaching, time is of the essence and Western North Carolina cannot afford for FEMA to take as long as it did with Louisiana and Maui for citizens to get the temporary housing that they need. I am calling on the White House to help obtain temporary housing for folks in our mountains and will not stop pressing this issue until this basic need is met.”
