From January 13, 2023 post.

On behalf of Sheriff Owenby, the Administrative Staff, and the Employees of the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Former Transylvania County Sheriff Geoff Shepherd.

Sheriff Shepherd began his employment with the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office on September 17th, 1977, serving in a multitude of roles and ranks until his retirement as Sheriff on November 30th, 2006. To those of us who loved him and knew him best, he was always known as “Scrappy.”

Sheriff Shepherd served as the Sheriff of Transylvania County from 2005-2006, after he was appointed to fill the role after the untimely death of Sheriff Bobby Orr.

Sheriff Shepherd remained a sworn Deputy with the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office until his passing.

Sheriff, you will be missed, and we assure you that your legacy will live on forever within this agency. Thank you for your dedicated service to this agency and the citizens of Transylvania County. May you Rest in Peace Sir, and we will be here for your family should a need arise.
