U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded two grants to Asheville Regional Airport for AVL Forward, the airport’s significant infrastructure project aimed at constructing a new terminal for Western North Carolina.
The grants, amounting to $9 million and $3 million respectively, will fund the expansion of the airport to accommodate more passengers. This includes the construction of over 5,000 square feet for the north concourse and an expansion of nearly 162,000 square feet of the existing terminal.
Edwards stated, “The $12 million in grants paves the way for the future of aviation in Western North Carolina where residents and visitors alike will be able to access better quality and more comfortable travel to and from our mountains. While the project has a long way to go, this investment marks a significant step forward for the Asheville Regional Airport.”
