FOIA Request to Henderson County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Asheville News have submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

Our request specifically pertains to the upcoming elections in North Carolina. We have asked for a complete list of all candidates running in these elections. The information we are seeking includes the candidates’ first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.

In addition to this basic candidate information, we have also requested contact details for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media, we rely heavily on access to public records to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
