In the first quarter of 2026, Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation ranked as the third largest nursing home in Henderson County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 130 beds, which is 29 more than the county’s average for that period. It assisted an average of 99.5 residents per day during the quarter.

CMS assigned Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation an overall 5 out of 5 rating, surpassing the North Carolina nursing home average of 2.9.

Valley Hill Health & Rehab Center operated as the county’s largest nursing home for the quarter, with 150 beds, while Orchard Valley Health and Rehabilitation was second, with 134 beds.

Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation reported zero fines or penalties in the first quarter of 2026.

Henderson County had eight for-profit nursing homes during this period.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau highlight ongoing growth in the country’s older population, while younger groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, as the under-18 population dropped by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has risen sharply since 1920, up from 4.9 million to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of the 65-and-older group—around 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and support, with more than a third potentially requiring nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
