The Mary C. Jenkins Community & Cultural Center announced on May 28 a weekend of Juneteenth celebrations, scheduled to take place from June 19 through June 21. The center invites all community members to participate in the planned festivities.
Events will begin on Friday, June 19, with an African American historical trolley tour at 2:00 PM, departing from the lower lot of the Mary C. Jenkins Center. At 4:00 PM, Dr. Dionne Hoskins-Brown is scheduled to deliver a talk at the center, followed by a seafood dinner.
On Saturday, June 20, activities at Silversteen Memorial Playground will run from noon until 6:00 PM and include live music, food trucks, a duck derby, and additional attractions. An African American historical trolley tour will be offered at both 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM from the center’s lower lot. The day’s schedule also features an African drum circle at 2:00 PM and a performance by High Steppin’ Majorette and Drum Corp at 3:00 PM at Silversteen Memorial Playground. Bingo games are set for 4:00 PM back at the Mary C. Jenkins Center.
The celebration concludes on Sunday, June 21, with a joint worship service beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by Sunday dinner held at the Mary C. Jenkins Center.
Organizers said all members of the community are welcome to attend any or all of these events.
