The Vance County Community Foundation awarded the Franklin-Granville-Vance (FGV) Smart Start program a $1,000 grant for its program that assists adolescents who are parents with family-centered services.
A report in the FGV Smart Start June newsletter said that the Adolescent Parenting Program is aimed at preventing repeat pregnancies among youths who are parents, while also keeping them active in school and preparing them for secondary education.
The Adolescent Parenting Program has 25 parents participating, and the award will go toward school supplies for the 2020/2021 school year for those students, the organization said.
The $1,000 award came from the Vance County Unrestricted Endowment, which the article said is a component fund of the North Carolina Community Foundation.
"Thank you Vance County Community Foundation for supporting our teen parents as they continue their education to be able to support themselves and their family," the organization said in the newsletter.
