An industrial manufacturing company is planning to invest $650 million at a 1-million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Asheville.
"This investment will enable Pratt & Whitney to continue to modernize and transform its operations with cutting-edge technologies," Chris Calio, president, Pratt & Whitney, said in a release from Gov. Roy Cooper's office about the investment.
The company, a division of Raytheon Technologies Corporation, will create a high-tech turbine airfoil production plant that will generate 800 new jobs for Buncombe County through 2027, the October release said.
"We are positioning North Carolina to come out of this pandemic with these and other good-paying jobs, which signals a bright future in aviation even with the current challenges the industry faces," Cooper said in the release about the investment.
The new positions will provide a $54 million payroll impact to the area economy every year, the Department of Commerce projected in the release.
"We need to invest today to ensure that we have the infrastructure, production capabilities and workforce in place to meet future market demand and provide the best products to our customers worldwide," Calio said in the release.
