Of the 1,216 people living in Balfour in 2019, 47.5 percent (577) were women and 52.5 percent (639) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the South Asheville News.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by a ratio of 490-to-385. In the 65 and over age range, there were 154 females and 81 males.
