Nurse Aide graduates at A-B Tech have high exam pass rates

Healthcare

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College issued the following announcement on July 21.

A-B Tech’s Nurse Aide course had a 98 percent pass rate on the state exam in the past month, with these students earning the Nurse Aide certification. The course has graduated 227 students from June 2020 to July 2021, a part of the Health Occupation program.

“This is a stellar achievement for our students, staff, and instructors,” said Deborah Wright, Vice President of Continuing Education and Economic & Workforce Development. “They earned it through their hard work under challenging conditions.”

Nurse Aide is a short-term training that prepares individuals to work as caregivers in a health care setting, such as in a nursing home, hospital, or home health care. It also provides the background needed to go into a nursing program.

The college currently has another 80 students in classes, with 150 on a waitlist at the Asheville and A-B Tech Madison campuses. To meet the demanding need for classes, the college is hiring two more full-time instructors.

Over the past six months in Western North Carolina there have been 938 unique job postings for CNAs, according to Emsi, Labor Market Analytics and Economic Data. The average position pays $14.83 an hour.
