VISION Transylvania County, a local leadership program, hosted a graduation ceremony on June 2 for the 30 community members who completed the full program this spring.

VISION Transylvania County (VISION TC) is a ten-month course designed to give participants an in-depth knowledge of Transylvania County – its past, present, and future – through two retreats, an orientation, and ten intensive days. The program develops community leaders, promotes networking, teaches about leadership styles, explores local issues, enhances critical thinking and supports economic development.

VISION TC covers the following topics: history/cultural diversity; government; environment and natural resources; business, industry and economic development; law enforcement and emergency services; education; arts; healthcare and human services; and outdoor recreation.

Alex Tilly, vice president of First Citizens Bank Brevard, participated in this VISION class and described the program as valuable and rewarding. He also praised Blue Ridge Community College and instructor Angela Owen for guiding the VISION class.

“It not only helped to broaden my horizons of the many facets that encompass Transylvania County, but more importantly it allowed me to create and develop lasting relationships with my classmates, impactful individuals, and businesses throughout the county,” Tilly said. “It is extremely fulfilling to see people come together for the greater good.”

Blue Ridge Director of Corporate and Customized Training Shanda Bedoian believes the VISION programs are committed to developing and providing leaders with opportunities to accelerate their knowledge and impact the community.

“The programs introduce the leaders to every segment of a thriving community from government to education to community-based organizations to public service to the private sector in manufacturing, healthcare, small business, financial institutions, and more,” Bedoian said.

The list of graduates include Anna Bracco, Trish Bricker, Alexa Broadbent, Geralyn Connell, Christy Davis, September Fisher, Carol Flick, Victoria Galan, Mary Jo Gordon, Carla Hill, Karl Hosler, Whitney Houck, Tom Jordan, Nory LeBrun, Colleen Maher, Steve Matadobra, Olivia McCarson, Ashlynn McCoy, Scott Queen, Cindy Rehm, Don Rogers, Scott Stetson, Alex Tilly, Michelle Tracz, Linda Vandeweghe, and Gerald Yunker.
