Jennifer Abel Named Henderson County Media Coordinator of the Year for 2022-2023

Described as an exceptional educator, Jennifer Abel, the media and technology coordinator at North Henderson High School, is Henderson County Public Schools’ Media Coordinator of the Year.

Abel was made aware of the honor in a surprise visit to North Henderson High School this morning by HCPS Superintendent Mark Garrett, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Scott Rhodes, and members of the school’s leadership team.

Abel is an alumni of North Henderson and has been the school’s media and technology coordinator for over a decade. You will find her not only in the media center, but also driving a bus or helping around the school.

Peers from Henderson County’s 23 schools nominate and vote for the media coordinator of the year. Nominations must be members of the North Carolina School Library Association. NCSLMA is a professional organization dedicated to supporting, promoting, and empowering school librarians across the state as they transform their school communities. Abel is not only a member, but she is the President of the association.

In speaking about Abel’s willingness to help where is needed, North Henderson High School Principal, Mr. John Shepard said, “Mrs. Abel adds value to all of our staff. She is a dedicated educator and embodies everything a school needs to be successful.”

Stacy Perez-Ibarra, a student at North Henderson and teacher assistant to Abel said, “I love everything about Mrs. Abel. She’s amazing and always there for her students no matter what.”
