The latest movie from filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, titled "Police State," is set to be shown at a Hendersonville movie theater on Oct. 23.
The film explores what D’Souza refers to as "police state" activities by the government, from the post-9/11 "Patriot Act" to more recent instances such as COVID lockdowns, social media censorship, and the prosecution of concerned parents at school board meetings. It also delves into the surveillance and detention of Americans in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021.
D’Souza expressed his surprise at the need to create a movie like "Police State" in the current political climate. He stated, "I honestly wouldn't have believed, prior to the 2020 election and prior to Biden coming to office, that I’d be making this movie. Which really shows that we have seen a speedy introduction of the police state on many different levels."
The film features D’Souza himself, along with actor Nick Searcy, and includes interviews with U.S. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R), radio host Dan Bongino, and several government whistleblowers.
The movie's trailer has garnered significant attention, with 74 million views on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) at the time of publication.
The screening of "Police State" will take place at Epic Theatres in Hendersonville, located at 200 Thompson St., at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23. Additionally, the movie will be shown in other cities such as Asheville, Concord, Greenville, and various communities, as listed on the film's website.
