U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards has issued a statement regarding President Donald Trump's forthcoming visit to Western North Carolina. The visit comes in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which caused significant damage to the region.
Edwards expressed his welcome for President Trump, stating, "I welcome President Trump back to our mountains, and am honored to accompany him to see the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene and our efforts to clean up and rebuild."
He emphasized the significance of this visit as it marks President Trump's first official trip of his presidency. Edwards remarked, "By making this the first official trip of his presidency, President Trump is keeping his promise to the people of Western North Carolina that we are not forgotten."
The congressman also highlighted his role in securing federal aid for recovery efforts. "I was pleased to have authored the bill appropriating $110 billion toward our recovery, and will fight for every possible dollar of it to come to Western North Carolina," he stated.
Edwards plans to use this opportunity to showcase both the progress made and the challenges faced by local communities. He noted, "I intend to show President Trump the progress we are making, the unwavering resilience of the people of WNC, and why there is a dire need to overhaul FEMA."
