U.S. Congressman Chuck Edwards has been appointed by President Trump to join a newly established task force aimed at reforming the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Edwards expressed his commitment to the initiative, stating, "It is an honor to be named by President Trump to the FEMA task force to fix how this broken agency works. After being on the ground throughout the Hurricane Helene response, it’s clear that an overhaul of FEMA is necessary to more effectively and efficiently respond to natural disasters."

The task force was created following an executive order signed by President Trump on January 24, 2025. Its purpose is to conduct a comprehensive review of FEMA and offer recommendations for improvements that will enhance the agency's ability to serve national interests and bolster resilience against disasters.

Leading the task force is Michael Whatley, chairman of the Republican National Committee. The group also includes Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and Congressman Tim Moore.

Edwards emphasized his readiness to contribute insights gained from past experiences in disaster response with hopes that these efforts will better prepare the nation for future emergencies and help save lives.
