Town of Laurel Park issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.
Hendersonville Water & Sewer will begin upgrading existing water meters in Laurel Park to automated meters. Water customers on the City of Hendersonville system have enjoyed the many benefits of automated metering technology for years. Now, customers on the Laurel Park system will be upgraded to new automated meters and provided with the same benefits.
“Upgrading our Laurel Park customers to the utility’s Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) provides them with detailed information on their water usage,” said Hendersonville Utilities Director Lee Smith. “They’ll be able to receive alerts through our Aquahawk Alerting system when leaks are detected which can save them money and prevent property damage if an issue occurs.”
Instead of one read per month, Laurel Park customers will receive the benefits of 24 remote hourly meter reads per day. Customer water usage is automatically relayed to the City’s water billing system through a secured network.
The City of Hendersonville and Town of Laurel Park entered into an agreement to merge water systems during the Spring of 2021. The partnership created significant benefits to both systems including infrastructure improvements and cost savings for Laurel Parks residents due to lower rates. Through AMI technology, Laurel Park customers will have the same ability as City customers to access the City’s customer portal for self-service options and proactive leak identification and identification, furthering the cost savings benefits.
Approximately 850 meters in Laurel Park will be replaced with new AMI Sensus meters. It is expected to take three weeks for all the meters to be changed out. Customers are encouraged to keep their water meters clear by making sure they are not blocked by bushes, equipment, or other materials that would prevent personnel from replacing the meter.
The City’s contractor, USA (Utility Services Associates) will be installing the new water meters. Customers do not have to be home for the replacement to occur. Once the change-out is complete, customers will receive a door hanger detailing the work performed and additional contact information. USA personnel can be identified by their company badges, USA shirts and vests, and the USA decal on their trucks.
Additional information on the project and frequently asked questions are posted on the City of Hendersonville website at www.hendersonvillenc.gov/meterupgrade.
