City of Asheville offices to close for Veterans Day, ART buses and Sanitation collection to run on regular schedule

Announcement

City of Asheville issued the following announcement on Nov. 5.

In observance of Veterans Day, City of Asheville offices will be closed November 11. Here is a look at how City services will be affected.

Art bus service and Sanitation collection will not be affected and will run as usual.  Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville will operate on its regular schedule as well.

Parks & Recreation

All City parks will be open on Veterans Day. This includes dog parks, outdoor sport courts, boat accesses, fields, the Azalea Park fishing pond and the Richmond Hill disc golf course. Aston Park Tennis Center, WNC Nature Center, Asheville Municipal Golf Course and all parks will be open on a regular schedule.

Tempie Avery Montford Center and Dr. Wesley Grant Southside Center will be open for Fun Day Out programming. All other recreation and community centers will be closed Veterans Day.

Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Asheville will once again honor our local Veterans with a Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11. Due to health precautions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public is invited to participate virtually.

The Veterans Day ceremony can be viewed online on the City of Asheville YouTube channel. The program will begin at 11 a.m. The keynote speaker is Dr. Laura Tugman, Ph.D., Chief of Mental Health Services at Charles George VA Medical Center. Find more information at this link: bit.ly/3GFnF2j.

Emergency services

All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday .  Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.
