Jackson Park Affected by Diesel Fuel Spill

Henderson County was made aware today by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) that a diesel fuel release resulted in approximately 250 – 300 gallons of the diesel fuel entering Bat Fork Stream at Upward Road upstream from Jackson Park.  Henderson County staff have been working with the NCDEQ to address the concern within Jackson Park and ensure the safe use of its facilities.  NCDEQ has determined a minimal risk within Jackson Park, but with an abundance of caution, Henderson County Staff and NCDEQ are advising that humans and animals stay out of the water connecting to Bat Fork in Jackson Park until next Friday, April 29th.  Henderson County Staff is in the process of placing signage at the park to best delineate the closed areas.
