Henderson County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy graduated thirty-six new members

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy graduated thirty-six new members at a commencement dinner held on June 30, 2022. This was a combined graduation ceremony due to the Covid interruption of the 2020 class where only a few students chose to return.

The graduation ceremony held at the Elk’s Lodge was kicked off by Academy Director Barry Brown. He thanked the graduates for their dedication to the class and the interest they had taken in getting to know their Sheriff’s Office. Brown said this is a class that “every citizen in Henderson County should to take” because it opens people’s eyes to what goes on in local law enforcement and allows citizens to become better informed. Director Brown also thanked his Assistant Director and VIP Warren Hargis his help throughout the class. The Sheriff’s Citizens Academy program is in its 25th year.

Sheriff Lowell Griffin thanked the graduates for their eagerness to learn about their Sheriff’s Office and the men and women who so passionately work to provide for the safety and security of Henderson County.

Each Tuesday evening from mid-January to mid-April, deputies and Sheriff’s Office staff from various divisions presented information to the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy. Participants toured the Sheriff’s Office, Crime Lab, 911 Center and VirTra firearms simulator in addition to a variety of demonstrations and presentations from the SWAT team, EOD (Bomb Squad), K9 Deputies, Court Security, Civil Process, CCW Process, Criminal Investigations Division, Detention Center, Animal Enforcement, School Resource Deputies & School Safety, Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) and many more. All these topics and more were covered with ample time for questions and answers.
