Why will Main Street and the Avenues be metered starting in early 2023?

To address the demand for downtown on street and off-street parking, the construction of a 4-level parking deck and comprehensive parking management update is underway in Hendersonville. Upon the opening of the deck, expected March 2023, Main Street and Avenues from Church to King will be metered, and the permit system will be updated. The deck and new management system will substantially increase the number of downtown parking spaces. The pricing structure has been developed in partnership with parking consultants, City staff and City Council, and utilizes user-based fees to charge those who use parking infrastructure versus relying on Hendersonville residents and property owners to support/fund the system. It is all about location, location, location. Metering the most sought-after parking assets (those on Main Street and the Avenues) will facilitate turnover and help fund the cost of constructing the parking deck and new parking infrastructure as Hendersonville continues to grow.
