The US Forest Service and North Carolina Forest Service will be conducting three different controlled burns today so long as weather allows. The Burns are scheduled for Pisgah National Forest, Dupont State Forest, and Headwaters State Forest. It is possible depending on wind directions that the entire area will experience smokey conditions. Controlled Burns are an essential part of forest and woodland management. Controlled burns rid our forest of dead leaves, tree limbs and other debris while reducing invasive plants and rejuvenating the woodlands.
It is probable that SC Forestry Commission will be conducting controlled burns today as well as conditions are favorable for controlled burning by the government agencies.
With all that being said we just want to make you all aware that smoke conditions may exist throughout the county today. If you see a fire please call 911 however what you may see or smell may be drift smoke from one of the multiple controlled burns.
