In an effort to reduce missed court dates, a new program is starting up in the Buncombe County Courthouse.
Just inside the entrance, people will now find a staffed information kiosk to help people navigate courthouse buildings, which some find overwhelming.
"Our court navigator has had the opportunity to serve over 125 people by helping people find their courtroom, connecting people with other resources, and signing people up for the court reminder system," said Josh Pierce, Diversion Services manager.
The program is funded with a $60,000 grant from the MacArthur Foundation, which supports programs tied to justice and accessibility. Goodwill Industries is also a partner and helps to provide a contracted employee.
The program also has a system where people can sign up to get automated texts and help them stay on top of court dates.
