BUNCOMBE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON AFTER BEING ARRESTED BY SHERIFFS OFFICE FOR SEX CRIMES AGAINST A MINOR
Following his arrest by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in June of 2021, Bobby Lee Penley, age 59 of Buncombe County, has been sentenced to serve between 219 to 323 months in prison. Penley pled guilty to two counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, and first-degree kidnapping.
“Thank you to our Detective Unit at the Family Justice Center for building a strong case so that the survivor and their family and friends now have some sense of justice,” says Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller.
“It takes courage for juvenile survivors to seek justice and each time it helps other victims to come forward,” says Lt. Bryon Crisp of the Criminal Investigations Division with the Sheriff’s Office.
The juvenile victim was also a Buncombe County resident. The Sheriff’s Office is releasing limited information regarding the location and details of this crime out of respect for the family.
