BUNCOMBE CONTY MAN ARRESTED FOR STATUTORY RAPE OF A CHILD BY ADULT
Detectives with the Special Investigation Unit of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office working with the social workers from the Department of Social Services (DSS), have arrested Christopher Murray Upshaw, age 32, of Buncombe County and charged him with Statutory Rape of a Child by Adult.
On March 30, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a sexual assault of a juvenile. Detectives and DSS acted quickly to gather information and identify the offender, which resulted in the execution of a search warrant at the offender’s residence. Mr. Upshaw was arrested yesterday subsequent to the search warrant.
Mr. Upshaw is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $300,000 bond.
Detectives with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigation Unit work diligently to address these crimes against persons, protect the residents of Buncombe County and seek justice for survivors of sexual assault. We would like to thank all of those who acted hastily to apprehend Mr. Upshaw and provide a sense of peace for the juvenile survivor.
