Forest fire burning in Lake Logan area nears containment As of this morning, the forest fire burning in the Lake Logan area is nearing containment. The fire has burned around 75 acres so far.

“Conditions overnight were ideal for firefighting, with low temps, and low humidity, we were able make significant progress” said Matt Hooper, N.C Forest Service Haywood County Ranger.

In total 76 firefighters and personnel from Lake Logan-Cecil Volunteer Fire Department, Cruso Volunteer Fire Department, North Carolina Forest Service, including three B.R.I.D.G.E. crews, and the U.S Forest Service and other agencies fought the fire through the night.

Relief teams came in first thing this morning to take over from the overnight crews. Today’s focus has been on eliminating hot spots. Haywood County Emergency Services’ drone team flew in support of this mission, using the drone’s thermal camera to locate and report hotspots to ground crews.

Ten structures were protected overnight by members of Lake Logan Fire Department while the fire burned the containment area. Fortunately, there were no structure fires or injuries as a result of this fire.

Law enforcement support was provided by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and medical support was provided by Haywood County Emergency Medical Service Special Operations Medics. Emergency Services would also like to thank Black Bear Café and Cold Mountain Market for their generous donation of food and refreshments for the firefighters.###
