Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) on May 22 announced that Julia Ledbetter of Hendersonville accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Ledbetter is Rep. Edwards’ first nominee to a U.S. service academy and an all-state soccer player. She will graduate from Hendersonville High School this year and join the Naval Academy’s class of 2027.

“I’m proud to nominate my first student from North Carolina’s 11th district to one of America’s esteemed military service academies. Serving in the military is one of the most honorable roles one can achieve and to become a midshipman means one lives out the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty. I commend Julia for her love of country and desire to serve our nation," said Edwards.

All students who wish to receive an appointment to one of our nation’s military service academies must be nominated by a member of the student’s state congressional delegation, the vice president or president of the United States.
