Washington, D.C. - Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) has cast his vote in favor of a short-term funding bill that will keep the government operational through November 17. The Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 and Other Extensions Act passed with an overwhelming majority of 335-91.
Congressman Edwards, a staunch advocate for fiscal responsibility and national security, emphasized the negative impact of a government shutdown on all Americans. He stated, "A government shutdown hurts everyone. I've been voting to cut spending, secure our border, and take care of our men and women in uniform. I refuse to let our troops - many of whom are serving in harm's way - and their families be pawns in this process. That's why I voted to give Congress 45 days to continue our work."
Recognizing the potential consequences of a shutdown, Congressman Edwards added, "No one wants to see our servicemen and women, retirees, federal law enforcement, farmers, and public servants suffer because Washington can't get its act together."
The Continuing Appropriations Act, 2024 and Other Extensions Act provides crucial provisions to ensure the smooth functioning of various government programs:
